Some of the most memorable properties in Africa are small, owner-run, and entirely off the beaten track. We seek these out, assess them rigorously, and include them in our portfolio when they meet our standards. These are the properties that clients remember long after the big-name lodges have faded.
Our Process
How we vet a property
Personal visit
Every property in our portfolio has been visited by a member of our team — not assessed from a brochure or a review site. We stay, we eat, we go on game drives, and we experience the property as our clients would.
Standards assessment
We evaluate each property against a consistent set of criteria: guiding quality, accommodation standard, food and beverage, service, conservation ethos, and value for money. Properties that do not meet our threshold are not included.
Regular reassessment
Standards change. Management changes. We revisit properties regularly and remove those that no longer perform. Our portfolio is a living document, not a static list.
Client feedback loop
Every client who stays at a property in our portfolio is asked for their honest assessment on return. This feedback informs our ongoing evaluation and helps us identify any decline in standards before the next booking.
